Dark Thirty

That's what time we got back.  We dropped "the cousins" off at Safeway but there was no way Nikki could drive herself home so we drove her the 45 minutes home.  We helped her out of the car and into the house.  We did not know whether or not to take her boot off.  It didn't look good...but it was late and (drum roll please) the next day was Nikki's birthday!!

She was stuck in this chair for days with her broken ankle because she couldn't make it up the stairs.  Good thing she was on vacation and didn't have to work, right?  Despite the pain and "swarling" she had to go through, she really was a great sport.  As a matter of fact, she joined ALL of us at the property in the D-Springs for some fun a couple days later.  Although her's was not the only injury during this week, I would say that the others were minimal in comparison.  Big J crashed his dirt bike (man down!) on the hill while I managed to get a chunk taken out of my neck courtesy of the go kart's seatbelt (ouch)!

Poor Broken Nikki, no one would let her go for a ride...
Have you seen it for yourself?  If you have not, you need to:

It was snowing when we got there.  It had cleared  up for a couple hours so we sledded as long as we could.  We were all laughing because we had flicked over on top of each other.  The toboggan went to the right and we all crashed to the left, as you can see in the video.  The sisters joked that they were "broken" but all the while Nikki actually WAS!

Now we had a problem on our hands - how do we get her back to the truck?  It's not like she could walk...You must be wondering how we did it, right? I realize this is blurry but in attempts to get her back to the truck, we had to put her back on the sled:
It took forever, because every bump hurt her not to mention the number of bushes and sticks we had to maneuver over/between back to the parking lot.
The sisters ran ahead to see if the sled rental shack had a first aid kit or a medical professional available.  Sledding = injuries so in theory, they should have SOMETHING, right?  No.  Nothing.  And the ambulance would have had to chain up to make it there as it had begun to snow again but harder this time.  When we finally got to the truck, "the cousins" played in the parking lot in the snow and all of a sudden we found that dusk was upon us!
The snow park was closing for the night and we were the last ones there.  They had closed the gate and we were still inside!  We lost the sisters somewhere in the snow because the video camera was m.i.a. and had to send someone out into the snowy darkness to open and close the gates for us.  At this point, we FOUND the camera and the interview began...

We left Safeway at 12:20pm after picking up the rest of "the cousins."  The 6 of us got to Tahoe pretty quickly and found that there was not nearly as much snow as we had anticipated.  We had hoped to find plenty of fluffy new snow for sledding...
At the snow park, there was much more snow which left no one disappointed.  After multiple runs down on the plastic sleds (plastic wanna-be toboggan and plastic dish), the boys made an attempt to ride the toboggan.  Being that there were two of them, there wasn't much room left for anyone else, so the girls would have to ride second.  Every single one of us crashed and tumbled through the snow no matter which sled we chose.

It was finally time for the girls to pile onto the toboggan.  For some of us, this was not only our first ride on a toboggan, it was our last.  I had "borrowed" my mom's brand new Flip video camera so I called second because I wanted to be able to  hold the camera without the responsibility of steering (little did I know there was no such thing) and still be able to hold onto the person in front of me with the other hand.  The sisters called the back two positions, which was strange but we did not question it.  This left Nikki, without concern, in the number 1 position.  We took our places.  She called out, "Ready?!?!"  And down the hill we went...
